Lucy Stein and Andrew Kerton: The White Hotel Revisited (2015)
(free admission, limited seating)

The performance blends surreal erotic excerpts from D. M. Thomas’s successful novel The White Hotel (1981), live painting and collage, dance and free jazz for a multimedia event that reflects on ideas from psychoanalysis such as “transference,”“projection,” and “embryology.” Stein and Kerton revive an artistic format Schawinsky developed at Black Mountain College known as “Spectodrama.”

Lucy Stein (b. 1979 Oxford ) studied at Glasgow School of Art and de Ateliers in Amsterdam. Her paintings and performances have been presented at Galerie Gregor Staiger (Zürich), ICA and Piper Keys (London) and at Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst (Zürich). She has been awarded with the Queen’s Painting Prize GEM in Den Haag (2006) and the Jerwood Painting Prize (2010). Stein presents the radio show “Squirming The Worm” for NTS, London and plays in the bands “Death Shanties” and “Patriarchy Lite Aircraft.”
