"Sacré 101 – An Exhibition Based on 'The Rite of Spring'"

14.02.2014, 18:00

With the exhibition project Sacré 101 the Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst traces the interplay between dance and the visual arts in a sustained engagement with the ballet Le Sacre du printemps (The Rite of Spring). The work features revolutionary music by Igor Stravinsky and choreography by Vaslav Nijinsky, and its premiere in Paris a century and a year ago is regarded as one of modernism's great breakthrough moments. Alongside a selection of Le Sacre dance documentation, most of the invited artists will specially create new works for the exhibition: works that address the ballet, its context and its history in a wide variety of ways.
With contributions by Eleanor Antin, Marc Bauer, Dara Friedman, Millicent Hodson/Kenneth Archer, Karen Kilimnik, Xavier Le Roy, Marko Lulić, Royston Maldoom, Sara Masüger, Vaslav Nijinsky, Silke Otto-Knapp, Christodoulos Panayiotou, Yvonne Rainer/Babette Mangolte, Lucy Stein, Alexis Marguerite Teplin, Julie Verhoeven and Mary Wigman.

Collection on Display examines the complex issue of space and interiors in contemporary art. The third section of this thematic cycle features works by Jan Dibbets, Jimmie Durham, Esther Eppstein, Urs Fischer, Andrea Fraser, David Renggli and Tatiana Trouvé.
