Artist's Talk with Jimmie Durham

in the context of "Anagrammatic Spaces: Interiors in Contemporary Art"

13.03.2014, 19:00

(in English, free admission)

Jimmie Durham (b. Washington, Arkansas, 1940) speaks to Judith Welter (collection curator, Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst) about his art on the example of his Maquette for a Museum of Switzerland. The work of Durham often revolves around the examination of societal and political themes, but also the issue of the representation of civilizing values, historicity and societal identity.

In collaboration with the research project "Anagrammatic Spaces: Interiors in Contemporary Art" of the Institute of Art History at the University of Berne, the Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst holds a three-part series of events on issues around space and interiors in contemporary art in conjunction with the Collection on Display series of exhibitions of works from our holdings. This third and last part features also a talk with Professor Peter J. Schneemann of the University of Berne and the Swiss artists' duo Lang/Baumann, which concludes the event series.
