Special guided tour through the collection depot of the Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst with Anna-Lena Gugger, registrar at the Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst (in German, free admission)

Limited number of participants, prior booking necessary at kunstvermittlung@museum.ch. Meeting point and other information will be conveyed to you upon confirmation of your booking.

A selection of works from the collection is regularly shown in the exhibition series Collection on Display, while most of the works are situated in the museum’s depot, which is not open to the public. As part of the research project “Art Handling”, a rare glimpse behind the scenes shall now be made possible. On site, the museum’s registrar shall talk about storage conditions, restorations, and the associated challenges.

The research project on the subject of art handling is being conducted by the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, and the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design, in cooperation with the Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst. Contemporary art calls for exceptional “mobility”: to an increasing extent, artists, curators, mediators and gallery owners alike are operating internationally. In this sense, the globalized markets’ demand for freedom of movement also applies to artworks. Up until now, however, research has paid little attention to art handling. This project is intended to remedy this, and shall result in a symposium in November 2014. Project team: Lucie Kolb, Christoph Lang, Wolfgang Ullrich and Judith Welter.
